Solar Nanowire-Bacteria Array Converts CO2 into Useful Chemicals

A new artificial photosynthesis process could be used to capture carbon dioxide emissions and convert them into plastics, drugs and fuels with help from sunlight. Scientists with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the University of California, Berkeley, have created a hybrid system of semiconducting nanowires and bacteria that mimics the natural photosynthetic process.
