Oerlikon Solar Ltd., a thin film silicon photovoltaic (PV) production equipment supplier, has announced that Gadir Solar of Madrid, Spain, has used its amorphous thin film silicon PV technology at the solar fabrication plant in Cadiz, Spain. The latter company’s plant, one of the largest in Europe, began operation in October 2009. It has produced approximately half a million PV panels per year, which will generate enough power for approximately 8,000 homes. “We are committed to providing the most efficient solar solutions for the Mediterranean region,” said David Naranjo Villalonga, CEO of Gadir. “Introducing amorphous panels to our production plant means we can offer the highest standard of quality and reliability.” The former company has provided its customers with experience in installation and ramping up PV module factories, using its competitive amorphous silicon and high-efficiency micromorph tandem production equipment technologies. It has invested R&D resources using non-hazardous substances and materials to further performance improvements and cost reductions. With a cost advantage over traditional crystalline silicon, thin film solar has made strong efficiency gains. For more information, visit: www.oerlikon.com/solar
