GENEVA, Oct. 17 -- STMicroelectronics, a developer of semiconductor solutions for automotive, communications, consumer, computer and industrial microelectronics applications, today announced the creation of its ST Greater China region covering the company's operations in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
ST says customers in the Asia Pacific region account for close to 50 percent of its total sales, with shipments within China responsible for more than 50 percent of the Asia Pacific volume. It expects China to constitute one-fifth of the global semiconductor market within the next five years, and the establishment of its Greater China region is a step in strengthening ST's position in the growing economic zone.
ST also announced that it has appointed Bob Krysiak to the newly created position of corporate vice president and general manager of ST Greater China, effective immediately. Krysiak has worked for the company since 1983 in a variety of roles, most recently as marketing director for the newly formed home, personal and communication product organization, which accounts for over one-third of ST's annualized sales and encompasses applications ranging from cell phones to digital set-top boxes.
