To develop a focal plane array for terahertz imaging applications, Zyberwear Inc. of Ocoee, Fla., has received a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research award of $464,344 from the National Science Foundation of Arlington, Va. Under the two-year contract, the company will fabricate an array that provides high-sensitivity, low-noise terahertz imaging in a variety of uncooled detectors. Suitable for applications in the security sector, the device will have the capacity to image objects, such as weapons, through clothing, packages or luggage. It will release no ionizing radiation, which would offer an advantage over x-ray imaging.
