NEW YORK, June 10, 2022 — S&P Dow Jones Indices announced that ON Semiconductor will replace IPG Photonics in the S&P 500. IPG Photonics will replace Yelp Inc. in the S&P MidCap 400. SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Integrated photonics company ANELLO Photonics released its Optical Gyroscope and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)/Inertial Navigation System Evaluation Kit (EVK) for Autonomous Applications. Powered by the company’s optical gyroscope technology and Sensor Fusion Engine, the company said the kit maintains centimeter accuracy in conditions that cause other systems to degrade. The...Read full article

    Glossary
    integrated photonics
Integrated photonics is a field of study and technology that involves the integration of optical components, such as lasers, modulators, detectors, and waveguides, on a single chip or substrate. The goal of integrated photonics is to miniaturize and consolidate optical elements in a manner similar to the integration of electronic components on a microchip in traditional integrated circuits. Key aspects of integrated photonics include: Miniaturization: Integrated photonics aims to...
    metalens
A metalens, short for "metasurface lens," is a type of optical lens that uses nanostructured materials to manipulate light at a subwavelength scale. Unlike traditional lenses made of glass or other transparent materials, metalenses do not rely on the curvature of their surface to refract or focus light. Instead, they use carefully engineered patterns of nanostructures, such as nanoscale antennas or dielectric structures, to control the phase and amplitude of light across the lens's surface....
    sharp
A term used to describe a convex surface having too short a radius of curvature. To correct this condition, material is cut from the outer portion of the polishing tool.
    aurora
The strongest light emitted by the Earth's upper atmosphere. It most often can be viewed in the Arctic as the aurora borealis, and in the Antarctic as the aurora australis.
