Researchers Observe Dead Time Phenomenon

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Sept. 1 -- Researchers at the University of California at Santa Barbara reported the experimental observation of photon antibunching in the Aug. 31 edition of the journal Nature. The term photon antibunching refers to the existence of a dead time between emission of photons from a single quantum dot, which demonstrates a verification of the quantum theory of light, the researchers said. Researchers also found that photon antibunching could be detected at room temperature, which is significant for applications in quantum computing and quantum optics. The experiment...Read full article
