PASADENA & MONROVIA, Calif., Jan. 22 -- Phasebridge Inc. and Unitek Miyachi Corp. (UMC) announced they have signed an agreement under which Phasebridge will license certain elements of its optical component manufacturing technology to UMC, which will develop a standardized platform for automation of key fiber optics packaging processes to commercialize Phasebridge's optical mount and process technology. "The deployment of Phasebridge's novel alignment technology in component mounts for fibers and lenses will result in a much more robust process that can be implemented using equipment that costs a fraction of the present state-of-the-art machines," said Mark Rodighiero, vice president of UMC's Laser and Systems and Axia Systems Divs. UMC will debut the new technology at the 2003 Optical Fiber Conference, to be held March 25-27 in Atlanta, Ga. Phasebridge said its technology eliminates the need for any post-weld processes, such as laser hammering or bending and other attachment techniques.
