'Overpowered' Laser Pointer Sales Prompt FDA Probe

PITTSFIELD, Mass., April 21 -- The FDA is zeroing in on "overpowered" laser pointers amid concerns about their potential to cause eye damage and aircraft disasters, at the same time that online vendors -- especially from overseas -- are apparently cashing in on the popular devices. Strictly speaking, laser pointers aren't illegal in the US. But the FDA issued a warning in February to US consumers against buying "overpowered laser pointers and similar devices."
