LED maker Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbH officially opened the last section of its semiconductor plant in Regensburg, Germany, on Friday. On hand were Osram CEO Martin Goetzeler and Rudiger Muller, PhD, CEO of Osram Opto Semiconductors, as well as Regensburg Mayor Hans Schaidinger. "Since the start of construction seven years ago we have invested hundreds of millions of euros. In this period the number of employees has increased by approximately 500 to 1500," said Muller. This growth boosted capacity by almost 50 percent, necessitating the expansion of the Regensburg facility to its current size of nearly 600,000 square feet, the company said. Osram Opto's corporate headquarters are in Regensburg and it also has development and production sites in Santa Clara, Calif., and Penang, Malaysia.
