HOUSTON, Feb. 26 -- A new optics technology is providing scientists with real-time microscopic images of the living retina, which may allow doctors to focus on earlier diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as diabetes and glaucoma. University of Houston researchers are using a technology called adaptive optics to peer inside the eyes of human subjects and -- for the first time -- to get clear, sharp images of features such as blood flow in the retina. Until now, clear images of the living retina were not possible because the eye's own structure interferes with the imaging process....Read full articleRelated content from Photonics MediaArticlesDevice Employs Structural Color to Image Ambient GasesResearchers from the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS, Japan), Harvard University, and the University of Connecticut jointly designed and fabricated a device for imaging a gas injected...BioPhotonics Mar/Apr 2023 IssueOn-Chip Laser Showcases Self-Sustained Comb OperationOptical frequency combs have been transformational for metrology, spectroscopy, atomic clocks, and other applications, but their utility outside of lab and industrial settings has yet to be realized...Photonics Spectra August 2024 IssueSPAD Elevates Spatiotemporal Resolution in Conventional MicroscopesImage scanning microscopy (ISM), a superresolution technique enabled by the advent of fast and compact detector arrays, provides signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), optical sectioning, and spatial...Photonics.com 2/23/2024NVIDIA Programs Attracting Companies from Gamut of Vision SpaceNVIDIA’s Inception and Metropolis programs have attracted multiple vision-focused startups and companies, including Covision Quality, Deci, Hayden AI, and Seeed Studio.
