Ophir Optronics Ltd. shareholders have approved the electro-optics systems maker's acquisition by Newport Corp. and regulators have approved the $230 million deal, the two companies announced Thursday. The acquisition is expected to close in early October, subject to satisfaction of the remaining closing conditions. "We are pleased that we are making excellent progress toward closing this transaction, and we are very excited to have Ophir join the Newport team," said Newport President and CEO Robert J. Phillippy. Jerusalem-based Ophir also makes photonics instrumentation systems and 3-D noncontact measurement systems. It will become the third division of Newport, joining Lasers and Photonics and Precision Technologies. (See also: Newport to Acquire Ophir Optronics) For more information, visit: www.newport.com
