Newport Corporation has announced that it has received orders totaling $7 million from three major semiconductor capital equipment companies for high-precision optical products. The customers plan to use the specialized optics and optomechanical subassemblies in front-end processing as well as in test and measurement equipment used by the semiconductor industry. "These orders will be manufactured at Newport's optical operations in Garden Grove, California, which were acquired last year from Corning/OCA, a division of Corning Incorporated, to add specialized precision optics capabilities and advanced thin-film coating technologies to Newport's product portfolio," said Robert G. Deuster, Newport's chairman and CEO. "The growth in orders we have experienced since that acquisition validates Newport's role as an important supplier of value added optomechanical subassemblies to companies in the semiconductor equipment market." Newport Corp. designs, manufactures and markets high-precision components, instruments and integrated systems to the fiber optic communications, semiconductor equipment, computer peripherals and scientific research markets. The company's products are designed to enhance productivity and capabilities of test and measurement and automated assembly for precision manufacturing, engineering and research applications.
