Netherlands Nanoscopy Center Opens Oct. 27

LEIDEN, Netherlands, Oct. 24, 2011 — The Netherlands Centre for Electron Nanoscopy (NeCEN), a new microscopy facility with two highly advanced cryotransmission electron microscopes, will open its doors Oct. 27. Established through the collaboration of 10 academic partners, local and national governments, and various companies, the facility is expected to generate significant advances in science and R&D.     An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale. Nano-optics (also referred to as nanophotonics), for example, is the study of how light and light-matter interactions behave on the nanometer scale. See nanophotonics.
