Nanosight Used to Study DNA

SALISBURY, England, Nov. 1, 2010 — The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is using the NanoSight LM10-HS, a nanoparticle tracking analysis technique, to study self-assembled polymer/DNA particles for drug delivery. The main research interests of Dr. Jordan Green of the Biomaterials and Drug Delivery Laboratory are in cellular engineering and nanobiotechnology. Knowledge of particle size is of particular value in the characterization of different drug delivery systems. Having had previous experience using dynamic light scattering techniques, Green and his team now also use...Read full article

    Glossary
    brownian motion
The behavior of microscopic solid particles suspended in a fluid, first observed by botanist Robert Brown in 1827 as a continuous random motion.
    nano
An SI prefix meaning one billionth (10-9). Nano can also be used to indicate the study of atoms, molecules and other structures and particles on the nanometer scale. Nano-optics (also referred to as nanophotonics), for example, is the study of how light and light-matter interactions behave on the nanometer scale. See nanophotonics.
