Jenoptik will acquire Berliner Glas Medical Applications GmbH (Berliner Glas Medical), SwissOptic AG, and SwissOptic (Wuhan) Co. Ltd. Jenoptik is acquiring the companies from Berliner Glas GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of ASML Holding NV. Berliner Glas was acquired by lithography systems manufacturer ASML in 2020. “Jenoptik will deepen its existing, long-standing business relationship with ASML, one of the key players in the semiconductor industry, as a reliable supplier and strategic partner,” Jenoptik said in a press release. BG Medical Applications, based in Berlin, is a supplier of high-precision, custom optical components for the medical technology sector. Jenoptik will acquire its product portfolio in the fields of dentistry (intraoral scanners) and robotic surgery. SwissOptic, headquartered in Heerbrugg, Switzerland, is a developer and manufacturer of optical components and assemblies, primarily for the medical technology, semiconductor, and metrology industries. The acquisition strengthens Jenoptik’s ophthalmology and life sciences business, and allows Jenoptik to approximately double the size of its medical technology business. Jenoptik said the purchase price for the combined acquisition is around €300 million ($349.7 million). In 2022, the acquired companies are expected to contribute approximately €130 million ($151.5 million) in revenue.
