TOKYO, July 17 -- Japan Steel Works Ltd has joined with German laser maker Lambda Physik AG and the Columbia University to develop technology that will improve the quality of liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The technology, to simplify existing laser annealing equipment, is expected to boost definition of LCDs by improving pixel integration, said a spokesman for Japan's biggest maker of forged steel products. The technology will also be used to make high-resolution active matrix organic light emitting diode displays, which consume less electricity and are thinner than current LCD panels.
