The RPR-0720 from ROHM Semiconductor is a compact 2.0 mm × 1.0 mm proximity sensor for applications requiring attachment, detachment, and proximity detection. Integrating a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) as the light emitting element and a sensor IC for the light receiving element, the product has an input voltage range of 2.7 to 4.5 V. Application examples for the RPR-0720 include paper detection in printers, cartridge and liquid detection in e-cigarettes, and attachment and detachment detection of mobile devices such as ear buds, smart watches, gaming console controllers, and VR headsets.
