India’s secretary of electronics and information technology inaugurated the Centre for Programmable Photonic Integrated Circuits and Systems (CPPICS). Within the next five years, CPPICS is set to achieve self-sufficiency, drive product commercialization through startups, and provide essential training to bolster the future ecosystem of PIC manufacturing in India. CPPICS is establishing partnerships, including a collaboration with Si2 Microsystems in Bangalore, to deliver state-of-the-art System-in-a-Package solutions for silicon photonic processor cores. ALBANY, N.Y. —Technology accelerator New York Center for Research, Economic Advancement, Technology, Engineering, and Science (NY CREATES) entered into a partnership with PsiQuantum for the R&D of integrated photonics. One of the first activities of the partnership will focus on integrating ultralow-loss waveguides with barium titanate (BTO), involving precisely bonding wafers of silicon photonics. SINGAPORE — Cosmos Innovation, which is developing perovskite silicon tandem (PST) solar cell technology, emerged from stealth after raising $19.7 million in funding. The move coincides with the company’s recent release of its AI industrial recipe optimization platform Mobius. The funding will support the company’s development of PST solar cell technology using AI. PREMSTATTEN, Austria — Ams OSRAM concluded its extraordinary general meeting with the approval of all items on its agenda including the proposed rights issue in the amount of €800 million ($845 million), which is a centerpiece of the recently presented financing plan, covering the expected financing needs until 2025-2026. Ams OSRAM also elected Arunjai Mittal, former chairman of the board of Advanced Micro Foundry, to its supervisory board. SunDensity’s newly opened R&D facility. Courtesy of Empire State Development. ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Coatings technology developer SunDensity opened its R&D facility in Rochester. SunDensity, 2020 cohort three winner of the Luminate NY accelerator program, develops photonic smart coating technology that increases solar power output and can also reduce energy consumption and improve the performance of consumer electronics displays and architectural glass in buildings.
