Brian Samoriski, PhD, Bristol Instruments Inc.

Many laser applications, including high-resolution spectroscopy, optical remote sensing, cooling/trapping, and optical fiber communications, are highly dependent on a laser's spectral performance. Therefore, it is important to characterize laser parameters such as absolute wavelength, wavelength stability, linewidth, and longitudinal mode structure. There are a variety of instruments that can provide this information, but most systems do not provide a complete picture. Wavelength meters measure absolute wavelength very accurately, but provide little or no spectral information. To determine a...Read full article

    fiber bragg grating
A fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is a type of optical filter that is inscribed or "written" into the core of an optical fiber. It consists of a periodic modulation of the refractive index along the length of the fiber. This modulation forms a grating structure that reflects a specific wavelength of light while transmitting others. fiber Bragg grating suppliers → Key features of FBGs include: Periodic modulation: The refractive index of the optical fiber's core is periodically...
    spectrometer
A kind of spectrograph in which some form of detector, other than a photographic film, is used to measure the distribution of radiation in a particular wavelength region.
    spectrum analyzers
In optics, spectrum analyzers are instruments used to analyze the spectral characteristics of light emitted or transmitted through optical components, materials, or systems. Spectral analysis: Optical spectrum analyzers measure the intensity of light as a function of wavelength. They provide a detailed spectral plot showing the distribution of light across different wavelengths within a specified range (e.g., visible, infrared). Wavelength range: Optical spectrum analyzers cover a wide...
