Alps Electric Korea Co., Ltd. (Republic of Korea, President: Kunitaka Hidaka), an overseas subsidiary of Alps Electric Co., Ltd., has announced the acquisition of ISO 14001 certification, the international standard for environmental management systems. The certification was registered on June 18, 2001, following a survey conduced by Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI). The certification covers all aspects of production at Alps Korea, including the development, design, manufacture and servicing of car electronics components & small power supply, as well as the production of audio/video devices and components, computer application devices, components for information/communication devices and associated metalic & plastic partse, as well as the production of metalic patterns for press/mold/die-casting. Alps has made concerted efforts to prioritize environmental preservation in its corporate activities and to disclose information by creating the ALPS' Environmental Protection Charter in 1994 and publishing the Environmental Report, an annual publication that began in 1999. By 1999, all Alps production facilities in Japan had obtained ISO 14001 certification. Overseas, Alps Ireland, the Dortmund Plant of Alps Europe and the Jengka Plant of Alps Malaysia have successively acquired the certification in May 1997, July 2000 and September 2000, respectively. Alps will continue efforts to preserve the environment from a global perspective by aggressively promoting the acquisition of ISO 14001 certification at other overseas subsidiaries.
