ABB will partner with Swiss startup Sevensense to enhance its autonomous mobile robotics (AMR) with Sevensense’s artificial intelligence and 3D vision mapping technology. The technology will enable the robots to navigate autonomously in complex, dynamic indoor and outdoor environments in close proximity to people. The partnership expands ABB’s robotics and automation portfolio, following its acquisition of ASTI Mobile Robotics, a leading global AMR manufacturer, which ABB announced in July 2021. The partnership with Sevensense includes a minority investment in the spinout company through ABB’s venture capital unit, ABB Technology Ventures. Last month, the unit led a $7.7 million Series A investment into Sevensense. ABB will additionally integrate Sevensense’s software and hardware technology into ABB’s AMR offering, with pilot customer projects planned in 2022. Sevensense was founded in 2018 as a spinoff from ETH Zurich.
