SHANGHAI, Aug. 16, 2024 — ams OSRAM has launched a China Development Center (CDC) aimed at driving business growth and technological innovation within Greater China. The center bridges the R&D teams and combines experts on product marketing, system solution engineering, application engineering, and supply chain innovation. The organization is set to open offices in Shenzhen and Shanghai, integrating several critical business sectors and product lines.
CHANDLER, Ariz. — Microchip Technology Inc., a provider of embedded control and processing solutions, has entered into a collaboration with Acacia, a developer of coherent optical interconnects, to demonstrate the fourth generation of interoperability between Microchip’s META-DX2 Ethernet PHY family and Acacia’s Coherent Interconnect Module 8. The collaboration will attempt to increase bandwidth between data centers by creating a new generation of 1.2 terabit-per-second transport solutions across a wide range of client configurations.

KENT, Ohio — Cholesteric liquid crystal display technology (ChLCD) company Kent Displays, Inc., display developer IRIS Optronics, and application system design and manufacturing company Ebulent Technologies Corporation have entered into a joint venture designed to accelerate the speed and scale of ChLCD innovation adoption. Headquartered in Ohio, the joint venture has developed an updated version of a 27.6 inch outdoor full-color e-paper display with almost 50% higher color saturation.
PUTNAM, Conn. — Opticonx, a manufacturer of fiber optic cabling components and systems, has entered into a global distribution agreement with Fiber Optic Center, Inc., a distributor of fiber optic components. This coincides with the opening of Fiber Optic Center’s new furcation tubing center which the company believes will provide customers with improved access to Opticonx’s LightTube furcation and breakout tubing portfolio. The portfolio can be used in the protection, termination, and identification of buffered optical fibers.
PLAINVIEW, N.Y. — IBM has entered into a joint development agreement with manufacturer of semiconductor process equipment Veeco Instruments, Inc. to explore advanced packaging applications using multiple wet processing technologies from Veeco. IBM has also selected Veeco’s WaferStorm Wet Processing System for advanced packaging applications to enable hybrid bonding cleaning processes such as resist strip, temporary bonding strip, and pre-bond cleaning with low defectivity thresholds at 40 nm and 60 nm.
AACHEN, Germany — The Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT is supplementing its 6th Conference on Laser Polishing LaP on Oct. 15-16 with an additional new conference. The 1st Conference on Laser-based Optics Manufacturing LOM will focus on laser-based manufacturing of complex optics and aim to boost the transfer of knowledge from research to industry. Both conferences will take place in the same time frame with the addition of 20 lectures, a laboratory tour, a showcase and poster exhibition, and networking formats.
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Sidus Space, a provider of end-to-end precision space infrastructure solutions, has sold its FeatherEdge onboard computing system to Xiomas Technologies, a developer of air- and space-borne imaging and data acquisition technologies, as part of a project aimed at developing fire detection innovations. The project, which includes Sidus Space, Xiomas, NASA, and Harvard University, will demonstrate rapid fire detection capabilities using a stratospheric balloon platform. The FeatherEdge system will generate data, including the location, size, and intensity of detected heat signatures, which will be packaged into compact packets for near real-time transmission. The stratospheric balloon is scheduled for launch in October.
SEATTLE — Developer of noninvasive medical diagnostics technology Know Labs, Inc. has successfully closed its previous underwritten public offering of 13,250,000 units at a public offering price of $0.26 per unit, having raised gross proceeds of $3.4 million less the underwriting discounts and commissions and estimated Offering expenses payable by Know Labs. The offering was conducted as part of Know Labs' plan to accelerate the development of its proprietary technology, which includes the KnowU wearable noninvasive continuous glucose monitoring device. The capital raised will be used in advancing the company's ongoing clinical validation studies and product development efforts on the path toward FDA clearance.

LAGOS DE MORENO, Mexico — Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company (YOFC), a provider of optical fiber, has opened a subsidiary in Lagos de Moreno, Mexico. The subsidiary, named Yangtze Optics Mexico Cable S.A. de C.V., is part of YOFC’s plan to increase its investments in Mexico and build a long-term presence in the region. The new facility will supply fiber optic cables and solutions to Mexico's telecommunications market, while creating hundreds of local jobs, according to the company.
