Wendell Blonigan has been named president and CEO of Intevac Inc., the company announced earlier this month. He replaces CEO and Intevac founder Norman Pond, who will continue as chairman of the board. Blonigan has more than 30 years of senior management and technical experience in semiconductors, flat panel displays and solar capital equipment. He founded Orbotech LT Solar, where he had served as CEO since 2009. He also previously was chief operating officer at Photon Dynamics and president of Applied Materials’ AKT display subsidiary. Intevac is the parent company of two businesses: Equipment and Intevac Photonics. In the Equipment business, the company designs and manufactures vacuum process equipment solutions for high-volume manufacturing of small substrates with precise thin-film properties required for solar cells and hard drives. Its Photonics business segment manufactures imaging products, vision systems and materials identification instruments that use Raman technology for the defense, industrial, medical and scientific markets.
