LONDON, Sept. 20 -- Global Crossing announced that it has activated its $35 million network center in London's Docklands. The London facility includes the company's network operations center, which is equipped to manage state-of-the-art submarine and terrestrial connections. Global Crossing plans to span 95,347 route miles and link 170 cities in 24 countries via its $6.4 billion Global Crossing Network. The company's pending merger with US-based Frontier Corp., expected to close at the end of September, will add 20,000 route miles and additional cities to the network.
The broadband offered by the Global Crossing Network is needed now in Europe and around the world, asserted David Lee, Global Crossing's president and COO. It is needed by the high-capacity voice, data, video and Internet transmissions driving international communications in fields such as business, education, entertainment and research in the next millennium. The Global Crossing Network Center delivers and consolidates the network management infrastructure capability necessary both to manage and maintain growth of the global network.
