COLUMBIA, Md., March 21 -- Telcordia Technologies has awarded Essex Corp. an 18-month first-phase subcontract for $375,000 that includes the sale of five hyperfine WDM devices and engineering services. The units are to be delivered later in 2003.
Essex will team with Telcordia and the University of Central Florida School of Optics (CREOL) to build an advanced optical code division multiple access (O-CDMA) system based on phase encoding. This project is funded by the US Department of Defense, Defense Advanced Research Project Agency, Microsystems Technology Office. The next phase of the project includes the sale of 11 additional hyperfine WDM devices, pending funding.
"We are having good success selling hyperfine WDM to the federal government," said Len Moodispaw, Essex President and CEO. "Our short-term focus is to win more smart revenue to support our commercialization efforts in these times of telecom industry downturn."
