BAE Systems Wins Army Laser System Contract

NASHUA, N.H., April 10 -- General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products has awarded British aerospace and defense company BAE Systems a $26.7 million contract to develop and demonstrate the guidance section of the US Army's advanced precision-kill weapon system (APKWS) program. The contract was finalized March 13 with BAE Systems Information and Electronic Warfare Systems, based in Nashua.

The APKWS is a precision munition that is effective against lightly armored targets. The BAE Systems guidance section features semi-active laser guidance and provides pinpoint accuracy for the Army's unguided Hydra-70 rockets -- making them "smart" enough to reach enemy targets while minimizing collateral damage.
