No laser user wishes to hurt themselves or others, or damage expensive equipment. Nevertheless, accidents do happen. Learn the steps to ensuring the safe use of lasers in your work environment, and prevent costly, dangerous accidents from taking place.

This webinar will explain the most important elements of laser safety and provide practical advice on how to implement a laser safety program in a research, academic and/or product development laboratory setting. Presenter Ken Barat, a laser safety consultant and long-standing expert in the field, will present a number of lessons he has learned on lab design for a safe environment and laser accident prevention. He will also address common misconceptions about laser safety, before opening the floor to questions from attendees.

Ken Barat, Laser Safety Consultant.Ken Barat is the former Laser Safety Officer for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and the National Ignition Facility Directorate. He is a Fellow of the Laser Institute of America, a senior member of IEEE and SPIE, and Chair of the Laser R&D Standard committee. Barat is the author of several texts on laser safety, as well as several articles on laser safety for Photonics Spectra. He is a laser safety advisor for LIGO, ELI Beamlines, Allen Institute and Newport Corporation. Winner of both Rockwell awards for laser safety education and two time LBNL Mentor of the year and SPIE instructor, Barat is presently working on his own as a laser safety consultant and instructor, under the name Laser Safety Solutions (http://www.lasersafetysolutions.org).
