About the moderator

Jose PozoBased in the Netherlands, Jose Pozo is the architect of Optica's strategy to serve corporations around the globe. In his role as Optica's chief technology officer, Pozo leads the organization's corporate engagement efforts with a focus on building relationships across the industry’s diverse community of optics and photonics companies, giving a voice to innovators, and working directly with CEOs to expand their trusted network of contacts, collaborators, and partners.

About the presenters

Hanjo RheeHanjo Rhee, Ph.D., studied physics at TU Berlin, where he received a doctorate from the Institute for Optics and Atomic Physics. He concentrated on laser optics and nonlinear spectroscopy with a focus on stimulated Raman scattering and Raman lasers in solid-state materials. In 2015, he co-founded Sicoya with the goal of establishing a European player to bring silicon photonics transceiver solutions into data centers and beyond. In his position as Sicoya’s director of photonic IC design, Rhee is leading activities around the chip-level integration of photonic functionalities for applications spanning data center communications, mobile fronthaul networks, switch co-packaging, and automotive systems.

Claudia HoessbacherClaudia Hoessbacher, Ph.D., is CEO and a co-founder of Polariton Technologies. She channeled her lifelong fascination with light into an M.Sc. degree in optics and photonics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. As part of her doctoral studies at ETH Zürich, Hoessbacher researched integrated photonics, plasmonics, and electro-optics, which she later leveraged to develop the innovative products offered by Polariton.

Michael LebbyMichael Lebby, Ph.D., has served as Lightwave Logic’s CEO since May 1, 2017, and as a director at the company since Aug. 26, 2015. He has served as president and CEO of OneChip Photonics Inc., a privately held company headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, that is a leading provider of low-cost, small-footprint, high-performance indium phosphide (InP)-based PICs and PIC-based optical subassemblies (OSAs) for the data center markets. Also, from 2013 to 2015 Lebby served as part-time full professor and chair of optoelectronics at Glyndwr University in Wales to bring forward advanced materials, device, and integrated photonics-based technologies for the data center and high-performance computing markets.

During the period from 2014 to 2016, he focused on a foundry-based model for InP-based PICs and optoelectronic ICs (OEICs) in the data center segment, and he has been instrumental in assembling California’s proposal (via the University of Southern California) to the federal government for an integrated photonics manufacturing institute. Lebby earned a doctorate in engineering, an MBA, and a bachelor’s degree, all from the University of Bradford in England. He has over 200 issued utility patents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and this number expands to over 450 when international derivative patents are included.

Michael GeiselmannMichael Geiselmann, Ph.D., is president and chief commercial officer of LIGENTEC. He studied physics and engineering at the University of Stuttgart and École Centrale Paris and received his doctorate at the Institute of Photonic Sciences in Barcelona. In 2014, joined the laboratory of professor Tobias Kippenberg at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne in Switzerland, where he advanced frequency comb generation on integrated silicon nitride chips and engaged in several international research projects. In 2016, Geiselmann co-founded LIGENTEC and brought the company to the international stage of photonic integration.
