Silicon Carbide ElectronicsSilicon carbide (SiC) electronics from Microchip Technology Inc. allow technologies ranging from electric vehicles and charging stations to smart power grids and aircraft power systems to maximize efficiency while reducing size and weight.

The SiC products include commercially qualified Schottky barrier diode-based power modules in 700-, 1200-, and 1700-V variants. The power modules include various topologies such as dual-diode, full-bridge, phase-leg, dual-common-cathode, and three-phase bridge, in addition to offering different current and package options. The addition of SiC Schottky barrier diode modules simplifies designs by integrating multiple SiC diodes with the option to mix and match substrate and baseplate material into a single module, maximizing switching efficiency, reducing thermal rise, and allowing for a smaller system footprint.

The devices’ high avalanche performance allows system designers to reduce the need for snubber circuits, and the body diode stability allows designs to use the internal body diode without long-term degradation.
