Picarro, Inc. said its new G1104 H2S analyzer for monitoring trace levels of H2S (hydrogen sulfide) in ambient air, has a lower detection limit of 1 ppbv (parts per billion), which is an order of magnitude lower than earlier models.
With Picarro’s WS-CRDS (wavelength-scanned cavity ring down spectroscopy) technology, the new analyzer provides a large dynamic range of up to 300 ppmv (parts per million), operates in real time and has no requirement for frequent calibration. According to Picarro, the G1104 H2S will not suffer from cross-talk due to changes in other ambient gas components such as trace sulfur compounds and variations in moisture and CO2 at atmospheric levels.
Using an internal laser beam with an effective path length of many kilometers, the WS-CRDS is an ultrasensitive technology that measures the optical decay time in a flow cell. This technique enables the concentration of a particular species to be measured with sensitivity and precision several orders of magnitude higher than by any other optical technique.
The H2S analyzer achieves its precision and accuracy by way of incorporating improved temperature control of the internal optical components.
Specific applications for Picarro’s G1104 H2S include petrochemical plant emissions, in stacks, flares and flues, as well as emissions from landfills, sewage treatment plants and wastewater facilities.
