CoolLED, a global expert in LED microscopy illumination, is helping labs become more sustainable by reducing the environmental impact of its popular pE-300 Series Illumination Systems, which is reflected in the latest My Green Lab eco-score.
The pE-300 Series is a range of LED Illumination Systems for fluorescence, optogenetics, electrophysiology, and high-speed microscopy applications. It comprises three systems providing a solution that covers a range of everyday fluorescence microscopy; from the simple pE-300lite through the classic pE-300white to the highly controllable pE-300ultra. The systems are unique in also being available as a Direct Fit model, which increases irradiance and reduces the cost to buy and run thanks to fewer consumables.
CoolLED takes sustainability seriously and is constantly striving to reduce the company’s environmental impact. Bringing sustainability to fluorescence microscopy and driving the switch from toxic mercury-based illumination, the pE-300 Series has been registered for for the My Green Lab ACT Label since 2018, providing an impartial, third-party certification of the product’s ‘green’ credentials. ACT stands for Accountability, Consistency, and Transparency, and can be thought of as an eco-nutrition label for lab products, providing information about the environmental impact of manufacturing, using, and disposing of a product and its packaging. By understanding the environmental impact of equipment, this helps labs make sustainable purchasing choices.
This year’s recertification saw the ACT score reduced from 47.2 to 38.2, owing to energy reduction measures in manufacturing and recycled packaging materials.
