The Merano Hybrid IR Flood Illuminator from ams AG integrates all the electrical and optical components of IR flood illuminator and a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) driver into a single, compact package.
OEMs can use a complete, production-ready module supplied in a surface-mount 5.5 × 3.6-mm package at a height of 3.7 mm. The space-saving benefits of integration in an optimized module package make this flood illuminator system easier to accommodate inside a mobile phone’s enclosure than a larger system assembled from discrete components. A dedicated photodiode and interlock loop is included for eye safety monitoring. A high-quality VCSEL IR emitter and precise on-wafer optics for beam shaping and diffusion result in high power efficiency.
The system is suited for use in the latest 3D sensing technologies including time-of-flight and structured light methods. Applications such as face recognition, augmented reality, 3D object scanning, 3D image rendering, and other industrial and automotive applications, can also benefit.
