1-kW fiber-delivered direct diode system
SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 19, 2009 – Coherent Inc. has introduced a fiber-delivered direct diode laser system that offers up to 30% electrical to optical efficiency for use in industrial applications. With a reliable design based on closed-loop cooling, the HighLight 1000F is a flexible, mobile, high-brightness system that produces 1 kW of output at 975 nm from a 600-µm-core fiber with a numerical aperture of 0.22.
Applications include welding of titanium alloys and of mild, stainless and coated steels; cladding of tungsten carbide composites and of stainless steel, corrosion-resistant and hard-facing alloys; and heat treating of cast iron, carbon steels and stainless steel alloys. The compact design makes the system suitable also for robotic applications and, in manufacturing environments where multiple workstations are employed, it can be used for beam switching.
The fiber coupling allows the kilowatt power to be delivered directly to the work piece – either 180° around a part or at angles. The laser system can be placed up to 50 m away from the application. Existing accessories such as double focus, welding and cutting heads can easily be adapted to the system.
Based on proprietary microchannel cooled diode laser bar technology that typically provides more than 20,000 h of operation, the system is virtually maintenance-free. Its modular design facilitates integration and field support.
Power stability is ±2%, and operating temperature is 15 to 35 °C.
