SYLMAR, Calif., March 17, 2011 — High-power 1908-nm fiber-coupled QPC laser modules manufactured by Laser Operations LLC offer high efficiency and good spectrum characteristics for pumping of solid-state and fiber lasers; materials processing such as direct-diode plastic welding, marking and soldering; spectroscopy; and surgical and other medical applications.
With continuous-wave power up to 40 W and on-chip Brightlock wavelength stabilization technology, the new laser modules are suitable also for industrial and defense applications.
Their good spectral characteristics and high wall-plug efficiency target a specific laser crystal and water peak absorption to enable multiple applications from resonant pumping of Ho:YAG lasers and mid-IR generation to laser therapeutics.
Based on InP material, the chips reach 25% peak efficiency at room temperature with a <2-nm linewidth and low-wavelength sensitivity to temperature of 0.2 nm/ºC. Operating current and operating voltage are <60 A and <11 V, respectively, spectral width is <3 nm full width half maximum, and wavelength temperature coefficient is <0.15 nm/°C. Nominal fiber core diameter is 600 µm, and nominal fiber numerical aperture is 0.22. Fiber length is 2 m, and wavelength tolerance is ±2 nm. The conduction-cooled laser modules have an SMA fiber output connector.
They feature cladding-free power, internal gratings for higher spectral brightness and wavelength stabilization, athermal pumping and an integrated water-cooled plate. Available are detachable fiber and dichroic filter protection.
The modules are available with options including integrated aiming beam, fiber sensors and a range of photodiodes. They also can be integrated into SUltra, Laser Operations' recently released compact turnkey solution. Various microchannel cooled stack configurations are also available upon request for high-power pumping applications.
