Programmable Single- and Multi-Turn Absolute Encoders
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 22, 2009 – Sick Inc. has launched the AFS60 single-turn and AFM60 multi-turn absolute encoders with synchronous serial interface output. Packaged in 60-mm housings, they feature a new bearing design and a nickel code disk that extend the life of each encoder, helping to reduce replacement costs. The company says that the nickel disk is more robust than those made of glass or plastic, and it offers better resolution and is temperature-resistant, enabling use at ambient temperatures from -20 to 100 °C.
The expanded 30-mm shaft bearing provides the encoders with greater ruggedness than that of those with blocked ball bearings.
The AFS60 can be programmed to accommodate any value from 1 to 262,144 counts per revolution.
Each device in the series is available as a clamping or a servo-flange version for solid round shafts. Users can choose between M12 and M23 plug connections, or they can opt for cable exits that can be used radially or axially, with various connector lengths.
The compact encoders are suitable for applications that require precise and reliable position accuracy in robotic, mobile vehicle, packaging and general manufacturing environments.
Resolution for the AFS60 is 18-bit and for the AFM60, 30-bit. Both devices reduce the number of encoders customers need in inventory and enable the user to create custom resolutions at the click of a button.
