VCSEL technology
MERCERVILLE, N.J., July 8, 2009 – Princeton Optronics Inc. has introduced 40-W continuous-wave conductively cooled arrays for pumping applications. The backreflection-immune 808-nm (PCW-CA1-40-W0808) and 976-nm (PCW-CA1-40-W0976) semiconductor lasers are based on vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) technology.
The devices comprise a 2-D planar VCSEL array mounted on a high thermal conductivity submount and a copper base. They produce a narrow spectral linewidth of ~0.8 nm, a thermally stable emission wavelength of 0.06 nm/K and low beam divergence with a numerical aperture of ~0.14. The devices offer good reliability because they are not subject to catastrophic optical damage.
They also can be operated in quasi-CW and short-pulsed (<20 ns) modes and are suitable for solid-state laser pumping and medical applications.
