Welch Allyn Inc. to Sell Micro Imaging Group

SKANEATELES FALLS, N.Y. May 8--Welch Allyn Inc. has sold its Micro Imaging Devices (MID) group to Silent Witness Enterprises Ltd. (Surrey, British Columbia). The divestiture states that all assets from Welch Allyn's MID group business will be transferred to Silent Imaging. The MID product line incorporates complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) camera chips, which can produce smaller, less expensive cameras than the traditional CCD camera.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Skaneateles-based Welch Allyn employees will move into other areas of Welch Allyn Inc. Welch Allyn will retain the right to continue product development and to use its miniature cameras in its medical device business.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Our core medical business is continually creating new technologies that are useful in other industries, said Craig Sundheimer, Chief Business Development Officer at Welch Allyn. When one of these technologies evolves to a point where it needs specialized marketing and engineering expertise, it often makes sense for us to find a new home for that technology. Our Micro Imaging Devices group and its line of security cameras is a case in point. We are delighted that Silent Witness will be assuming the ownership role, bringing its expertise in security to the product line and the customer. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Silent Witness Enterprises Ltd. designs and manufactures surveillance cameras and has established itself in the $2 billion US security industry.
