Verizon, Council Members Lauded at FTTH Expo

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 8 -- Verizon received the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council's President's Award today at the 2004 FTTH Conference and Expo, held this week in Orlando, Fla. The award recognizes outstanding leadership and visionary efforts in FTTH. It was presented by FTTH Council President Mike DiMauro to Paul Lacouture, president of the network services group for Verizon, for the company's fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) program. Verizon plans to deploy fiber in a million US homes and businesses and to invest more than $800 million in its FTTP program this year. Lacouture was a keynote speaker at the conference, which ends today.

The FTTH Council's Star Award went to Paul Morris and David Shaw, leaders of The Utah Telecommunication Open and Shaw is its general counsel; he is also the city attorney for West Valley City, Utah, chairs the Utah League of Cities and Towns Telecommunications Task Force and belongs to the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors.

The council also presented Photon Performer awards, to communications committee leaders Michaela Iery and Diane Jensen for their efforts and dedication in helping the FTTH Council achieve its goals. Iery is the Council's communications committee chair and the communications director for the 2004 FTTH Conference; Jensen is the communications committee co-chair and a member of the conference planning committee.

Iery is the marketing communications project manager for Corning Inc., Optical Fiber, where she is editor of Corning's GuideLines Online magazine. Jensen is the marketing communications manager for Alpha Technologies.
