UK Orders Target Identification Cameras from Intevac

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 4 -- Intevac Inc. has received an order from the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence for two Model 120 Livar cameras.

Verle Aebi, president of Intevac's Photonics Div., said, "Our customer, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory of the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence, plans to evaluate Intevac's camera technology for potential use on various military sensor platforms."

Livar is similar to radar, however the illuminator is an eye safe laser, rather than a microwave, and the reflected signal is displayed as a digital video image rather than as a blip. This enables real-time, high-resolution imagery for target identification at ranges of up to 20 miles, much longer than it was previously possible.
