TEMPE, Ariz., August 17 -- Three-Five Systems Inc. has finalized an agreement with S-Vision Inc. to acquire the rights to S-Vision's XGA microdisplay technology, including its microdisplay imager device design, interface ASIC, optics, and related manufacturing technology. The agreement gives Three-Five an irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free worldwide technology license for all intellectual property rights associated with S-Vision's XGA MicroLCD Imager design, its XGA MicroLCD Driver ASIC design, and its Nova optical engine design.
The agreement provides Three Five with an XGA microdisplay product to complement its existing liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) microdisplay portfolio. The LCoS microdisplay is a thumbnail-size display with the resolution of a high-definition computer monitor. Microdisplays are being considered for use in a variety of possible applications, such as rear-projection high-definition televisions and computer monitors, portable front projectors, and mobile appliances featuring wireless linkages to television broadcasts, remote computer terminals and the Internet.
