Texas Instruments Ships 250,000 DLP Subsystems in 8 Months

DALLAS, Dec. 20 -- Texas Instruments (TI) said it has shipped more than a million digital light-processing (DLP) subsystems, a quarter of them just since April.

DLP technoloy employs the digital micromirror device (DMD) optical semiconductor chip. The DMD switch has an array of up to 1,310,000 hinged, microscopic mirrors that operate as optical switches to create a high-resolution, full-color image.

John Van Scoter, general manager of DLP Products and vice president of Texas Instruments, said, "Thus far, our success has been derived mostly from the business projector market, but 2002 will be the year when we expect to also become a major force in products for home entertainment applications.

"DLP technology delivers the clearest, sharpest, brightest images you can get," he added. "It's not surprising that it is becoming the technology of choice for increasing numbers of projector and display manufacturers, as well as for consumers and business people worldwide."
