Suttman Receives Prize for Laser Research
MUNICH, Sept. 22, 2017 — Oliver Suttmann, head of the production and systems department at the Laser Zentrum Hannover EV, received the Prize of the Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft Lasertechnik EV (WLT) for his contributions to the fields of fiber composite, glass and microprocessing.
The WLT Prize is awarded annually for outstanding accomplishments in the field of applied laser research. WLT focuses on the scientific further development of laser radiation as a universal tool and on opening up new interdisciplinary fields of application in optical technologies.
“Already in his Ph.D. thesis, Oliver Suttmann has proven his ability to address and solve complex challenges in manufacturing technology on a scientific basis,” said Michael Schmidt, president of WLT. “Now, he is successfully using this ability while heading a fully third-party funded department and thus promoting the scientific further development in the field of laser material processing.”
Suttmann studied mechanical engineering at the University of Rostock and at the Leibniz University Hannover and also received an engineering degree. He received his Ph.D. from the mechanical engineering department at the Leibniz University Hannover. Since 2007, Suttmann has been working at the LZH, and since 2013, he has been the head of production and systems.
