Claiming its biggest show in 10 years, the 2008 Vision Show East entertained an enthusiastic crowd with hot new technology and perfect weather. This year’s show was held at Boston's Hynes Convention Center, and was sponsored by the Automated Imaging Association (AIA), the world’s largest trade group dedicated exclusively to promoting the use of machine vision in the industry. Topics causing all the buzz included smart cameras, frame grabbers, infrared thermal measurement solutions, fiber optic sensor bundles, LED illumination and image sensors. A new and wide swath of applications suggested a major industry upsurge. The Vision Show touched on everything from an image-processed synthesizer (which is currently on a world tour with Bjork) to digital roulette. Thermography cameras demonstrated remarkable precision in measurement, and smart cameras were once again the center of attention, showcasing superior image capture, built in processors, interface devices for compatibility, and smaller and more accurate designs.
