Samsung HDTVs Set Sail on Cruise Lines

Samsung Electronics said it will expand its alliance with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. by supplying LCD TVs for its entire fleet, including its Genesis class of ships, the first of which is scheduled to be delivered in 2009. Genesis will be 40-percent larger than the Freedom class of ships, currently the largest in the world. Samsung said nearly 10,000 of its newest LCD HDTVs, including specially designed Silver LCD TVs, will be placed throughout five of the cruise line's newest ships through 2010. Samsung LCD HDTVs were installed in staterooms and public areas of five ships, including Royal Caribbean International’s Freedom of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas and Majesty of the Seas; Celebrity Cruise’s Century; and the new Azamara Journey. Samsung said it plans to begin providing sets this year, through 2010, and that it will outfit other ships as they are renovated, replacing current TVs with sleeker, slimmer units. The company is exhibiting its display products and concepts this week at SID 2007.
