Resonetics Expands Materials Processing Capabilities with Acquisition of Mound Laser

Resonetics LLC has acquired Mound Laser and Photonics Center Inc., a manufacturer of microscale metal components for the medical device and defense industries, for an undisclosed sum. Mound Laser is based in Kettering, Ohio.

Resonetics will expand beyond its current focus on polymers and glass to offer a broader array of technologies and materials expertise. The company has conducted research in micro additive manufacturing and plans to introduce proprietary tools for medical device designers to aid the development of ever-smaller complex products.

"The team at Mound Laser has made impressive strides in recent years, taking on very difficult-to-manufacture components in the neurovascular, structural heart and peripheral vascular markets in particular," said Resonetics CEO Tom Burns.

With the acquisition, Resonetics believes it has the world's largest capacity of ultrafast laser workstations serving the life sciences industry.
