Report IDs Research on Wireless Device Effects

Research that could further understanding of long-term low exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy from wireless communication devices is the topic of a National Research Council report sponsored by the US Food and Drug Administration. It identifies research needs based on presentations made by international experts and discussion sessions at a three-day workshop last August that evaluated topics such as measurement of RF energy and exposure, studies on human populations, human laboratory measurements, and animal and cell biology. Copies of "Identification of Research Needs Relating to Potential Biological or Adverse Health Effects of Wireless Communications Devices" are available from the National Academies Press; phone: (202) 334-3313 or (800) 624-6242, or visit: www.nap.edu

photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
