e2v and TowerJazz announced that e2v has increased the rate of production of its dental x-ray sensors that incorporate TowerJazz’s 0.18-µm CMOS image sensor (CIS) technology. The two companies will work together to create a new generation of system-on-chip (SoC) dental sensors that benefit from high image quality and advanced levels of integration and embedded capabilities, the companies said. Replacing conventional x-ray film, dental intra-oral x-ray sensors provide dentists with an instant digital image on a screen rather than on film that needs to be developed. Over the past year, e2v has progressively increased its production, utilizing TowerJazz’ Fab2, to meet the demand of the dental x-ray sensor market. With a shift from film to digital and from CCD to CMOS technology, the market’s worth was $30 million in 2009. It is expected to increase by 10 to 15 percent per year. e2v provides technology solutions for high performance systems within the medical and science, aerospace and defense, and commercial and industrial markets. Tower Semiconductor Ltd. and its fully owned subsidiary, Jazz Semiconductor, operate collectively under the brand TowerJazz, which manufactures integrated circuits.
