Thermo Fisher Scientific has acquired MarqMetrix, a privately held developer of Raman-based spectroscopy solutions for in-line measurement. Based in Seattle, MarqMetrix provides in-line process analytical technology (PAT) for precise measurements throughout the manufacturing process for applications including biopharma and pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and chemicals and polymers. The company has approximately 30 employees in the U.S. and will become part of Thermo Fisher’s Analytical Instruments segment. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Miguel Faustino, president for chemical analysis at Thermo Fisher, said the acquisition adds to Thermo Fisher’s portfolio of analytical solutions to address customer requirements for real-time measurement and process control in manufacturing. Thermo Fisher acquired specialty diagnostics firm The Binding Site Group Ltd. in a deal worth $2.8 billion earlier this year.
