TAU Systems Collaborates with ELI Beamlines, UT Austin on Laser Wake Field Acceleration

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 17, 2024 — TAU Systems, a producer of ultrafast, compact laser-plasma accelerators and secondary radiation sources, has entered into a research collaboration with the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI ERIC) and the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin). The collaboration aims to perform a series of experiments based on laser wake field acceleration (LWFA) using the Texas Petawatt laser system, housed at UT Austin. The collaborators seek to generate multi-giga electron volt (multi-GeV) beams, supporting applications such as radiography and muon production. A collaboration between TAU Systems, the...Read full article

    particle acceleration
Particle acceleration refers to the process by which charged particles, such as electrons or protons, gain kinetic energy and increase their velocity. This acceleration can occur in various natural or artificial environments and is a fundamental concept in physics, particularly in the study of subatomic particles, astrophysics, and accelerator physics. Key points about particle acceleration: Natural processes: Particle acceleration occurs in natural phenomena such as cosmic rays, where...
    fusion
    1. The combination of the effects of two or more stimuli in any given sense to form a single sensation. With respect to vision, the perception of continuous illumination formed by the rapid successive presentation of light flashes at a specified rate. 2. The transition of matter from solid to liquid form. 3. With respect to atomic or nuclear fusion, the combination of atomic nuclei, under extreme heat, to form a heavier nucleus.
