Spectrometry, Ion Chromatography Used in H20 Analysis

PALO ALTO, Calif. & HERISAU, Switzerland, April 14 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. and Metrohm AG announced today they have developed a high-sensitivity method that uses ion chromatography and mass spectrometry to detect perchlorate in surface and drinking water. The method combines the Metrohm advanced ion chromatograph and Agilent's 1100 Series mass selective detector; this application was developed as part of a co-marketing agreement between the two companies. Perchlorate, an explosive propellant used in rocket fuel, is a widespread and potentially harmful contaminant that affects thyroid...Read full article

    mass spectrometry
Mass spectrometry (MS) is an analytical technique used to determine the molecular composition and structure of compounds based on their mass-to-charge ratio (m/z). It involves ionizing chemical substances to generate ions, separating these ions based on their mass-to-charge ratio using electric and magnetic fields, and detecting and quantifying these ions to create a mass spectrum. Ionization: Samples are ionized using techniques such as electron impact ionization, electrospray ionization...
